Personality
Likes: Afternoon naps in the forest in or under a tree in the shade, cooler weather, pears, sparkling pear cider, coffee, star gazing, astrology, stormy weather, jazz music, sunglasses, rabbits.
Dislikes: Hay and grass (primarily eats fruits), large crowds, loud noise, hot days, bright lights, being picked on or made fun of for his scrawniness.
Strengths: Loyal, kind, heard working, determined. Tries his hardest at everything he does and completely focused. Incredibly fast at flying from having a leaner build.
Weaknesses: Shy, intimidated easily by other ponies. Aside from being able to fly fast, his overall athletic streak suffers from health issues. Sleeps all day from having night shifts so doesn't get out often. Coffee addict.
Fears: Snakes, never being able to prove himself and fulfill his purpose in life and what his cutie mark meant for him to do.
General Personality: Midnight is a generally quiet and reserved pony, much preferring to keep to himself rather than mingle. However, being a friendly soul, he will not pass down a conversation if one is started with him and treats the ponies he meets with the respect he feels they deserve. He has a soft spot for children, being an the older brother of a young filly, and wishes he had a way of connecting better with the town he swore on watching over. He hasn't yet made any friends, and he plans to for sure, but perhaps right now may not be the best time. It doesn't help when your downtime during the day is spent sleeping off the night hours patrol. Most day time activities go over his head and he's lucky if he can get some last minute shopping done or a movie before he has to go in for work. Though gentle for the most part, Midnight does tend to get a little cranky when woken up prematurely.
On his time off, Midnight still keeps to a later time frame, wanting to keep his sleep pattern in check and usually spends this flying above the clouds or going to the beach for a dunk in the moonlight. The water is cooler and there are less ponies. His biggest exception to crowds is on Saturday evenings when the shops are open later and the town square is lit up with colorful lanterns and music. Midnight takes this time to do some personal shopping and have a sit down at his favorite cafe to watch everypony pass by and have a fun time. On a side note, he drinks coffee like a steam powered engine in case he needs to do anything during the brighter hours.

History
Father: Sentry Watch; One of Princess Luna's retired palace guards. Sympathetic towards his son's conditions and set him up with a job on the police force for a small town.
Mother: Copper Watch; Runs a her old shop with her husband making and repairing clocks. Loving, caring, and encouraging of her son.
Siblings: Star Watch; little sister, still a young filly and stays at home with her parents. Misses her older brother. Has recently earned her cutie mark in fortune telling.
Other: Bramble, his brown pet rabbit.
History: Midnight Watch was born in the town of Trottingham under the loving care of his mother, who owned a clock shop, and his father, who had just recently retired from Luna's palace guard to raise their son. They lived above the clock shop, having to work odd hours for usual bat pony behavior and stay open during the day, as well as sending Midnight to school for regular pony hours. Midnight's school teacher would be written a note to excuse him if he decided it was necessary to wear sunglasses during class or around school grounds. However, it was quickly becoming obvious that he wasn't like the rest of the colts in his school. Midnight had been born prematurely, thus was already smaller then what he should have been. After waiting to see if he would grow into his own, it was a sad realization that Midnight was frailer then the rest of his classmates and had a harder time keeping up in the more physical activities. He was diagnosed to have asthma after he had complained to his teacher that his chest would tighten up during recess. The constant sunglasses, as well as being pulled from all P.E activities, resulted in bullying from a majority of his classmates. Despite not being up to par with the other colts in his school physically, Midnight dreamed of being a castle guard for Princess Luna like his father had and spent his recess time pretending to fight off bad tempered dragons from the castle of the night Alicorn. Midnight earned his cutie mark when a new student at the school was being bullied for having gap teeth, standing up for her and headbutting into one of the bullies when he pulled at the new filly's braid. He knew from then on it was his job to protect others and would strive to become one of the castle guards for Princess Luna.
When Midnight Watch turned eighteen he applied for training in the royal guard, starting a three year training process to become worthy of protecting the Princess. However, after only five months of his training Midnight was sent home, not having the physical attributes to match the rest of his comrades. Feeling defeated and his dreams smashed, he went about trying to find different jobs around Trottingham that may have been similar. However, the city was already overly crowded and both police forces and any possible positions as security guards were full. Working in his family's shop for a year, Midnight's father eventually called up a favor with a friend and sent his son out of town to train under a small town police station. Midnight took it with a grain of salt, but trained and fought his hardest to get the position, just barely passing under the terms that...'he was a bat pony and looked more intimidating then the rest of their quadrant.'.
After receiving the job, Midnight finally made it onto a normal bat pony sleeping track, taking night shifts and patrolling the town at dark while he rested during the day. Being away from home and feeling lonely, Midnight adopted a rabbit that would regularly approach him in the woods when he would doze off for an afternoon nap. He named the rabbit Bramble and sometimes lets him accompany his nighttime patrols if the evening is particularly quiet. Midnight now lives in a tree house on the edge of town nearest to the woods and every now and then his 10-year-old sister, Star Watch, comes and visits on his weekends off.

Out Of Character
Name: DreamOfSerenity (Serenity for short)
Roleplay Sample:
The usual protocol on the night shift for a pony in law enforcement was really quite simple; Always carry a flashlight on your person. However, the police station of this small town had not been counting on a bat pony to join the forces and did not take into account that said bat pony would already be able to see in the dark better then what the torch would have provided. Despite this, protocol was protocol and to have special treatment would have been out of the question. Midnight Watch sighed at the heavy clunking against his side where the flashlight sat, uselessly, in his uniform pocket. Every ray of moonlight, every flickering gas lamp in the streets, and every candle lit window caught into his narrow pupils, lighting the cobblestone pavement in a blaze of an almost dreamlike radiance. It had recently rained that afternoon, though the clouds had retreated for the moon, so the mirror of the puddles in the streets and wet stone walk ways helped brighten the night just that much more. It was dificult for a bat pony to understand how others could hardly see at times like this when there was light all around him at all times of the night. His eyes caught even the dimmest of stars and bent their light for his own use.
His job was a fairly easy one. Nothing ever happened here, let alone at night. He was almost ashamed to call himself an officer of the force, and though he had only been one for a couple of months now, the only problem he ever needed to address was a feverishly clumsy stallion that needed escorting home after one too many bottles of apple cider and salt licks. Sighing, Midnight Watch decided he was done with walking for now and took to the sky, clapping his hooves against the stone streets as his wings beat out at an enforced gust of wind to lift him off the ground. He had thought of moving to Canterlot and becoming a personal guard pony, but any celebrity there would have taken one look at his puny stature and laughed. Sometimes he wondered if he would have gotten into the force at all if it hadn't been for his father.
Still...he smiled to himself at the little houses down bellow, his ears just barely grazing the belly of one of the remaining clouds from that afternoon. The town was safe, and the call of his cutie mark was fed and satisfied by this fact. When it came down to it, that what he really cared about. His longing for something to actually happen was not just selfish, but fueled by boredom from one long night to the other. All it usually took was a nice sweep over the village from above, getting a birds eye view of a peaceful neighborhood ad the cool wind through his mane. If it was another quiet night, then all the better. He was doing his job...for the most part.
Maybe a run away manticore wouldn't be so bad...
