| Getting the glass-front counter settled once more, Sands let Cherry do her browsing in silence for a little while. Then, once he was done, he picked up his pipe from its appointed place and tapped it on the edge. Old ash dropped on the ground, out of the way, and he set to lighting a new pipe.
"Would you like to see something more closely?" He offered, clenching the yet-unlit pipe in his teeth and regarding the mare with a kind eye. He actually didn't look quite as old up close as he did from afar, but the pipe didn't really help his case even here.

Cherry let him do what he was doing, silently enjoying looking at the trinkets. Her nerved face calming into a gentle expression with big eyes. As if she was a cat examining yarn. Carefully picking up a small wooden statue as she twirled it slowly in her hand. Almost dropping it when she heard his pipe tap break the silence and set it down quickly. " Oh well...I suppose.." Looking around a little as her eyes caught onto the cloth again before nudging a little towards it.
" What of this cloth? May I see that..? I well...really like the color of it. " Tilting her head up at it for a brief moment before back to him. Taking note of the younger look he had up close. Though he probably thought of her as a child as most did despite her age. She wasn't sure why either that ponies thought that. If only he had snow globes though she'd buy them in a heartbeat, though she doubted somepony from a land these trinkets came from would even really know what they were.

| Setting the pipe back in its groove for the time being, Sands reached up and pulled the cloth in question down with his teeth. Luckily there was no worry about tobacco from his mouth getting on it, as the rectangular tags were sewn on to be a perfect biting point. He draped it across the counter, where its finer details were easier to see.
"An excellent choice, I have many colors and styles available," he declared. A shiny hoof waved over the sewn designs, embroidered in fanciful patterns with silver, white, and lighter blue thread. "The veils are here as demonstration pieces, however each one has a matching hijab included. This bead trim is done with south sea pearls, bought from the Sea Ponies themselves."

Claire beamed. "Thank you, sweets. I'll be sure to return before you take off. Stay beautiful!" She delicately lifted the bag and placed it gently on her head. There were many reasons to this. Firstly, modelling training had forced her to carry books on her head while simulating how smooth she had to walk down runways, so carrying things on her head was a breeze. plus, her extra long mane made a very nice cushion for more fragile items. Giving the shopkeeper another friendly nod, she turned and smoothly walked away. The bag on her head didn't even wobble and she smoothly walked past Cherry without taking a single glance at her. Mostly because Claire was a bit too anxious to meet the pegasi's eyes after saying all that to her the other day.
Hopefully this helps ease the tension...At least tiny bit. She thought.

It was a bit offputting to have claire walk close to her. Simply closing her eyes as the mare passed as if to try and not even see her. At least she and the shopkeeper had good interactions though the same couldn't be said between her and claire. It still stung a little how the first meeting went, and honestly she still thought of claire as a spoiled child. To so easily taunt someone she barely knew let alone with a possession that one treasured was rude. But she tried to push that thought aside. And couldn't help but stare down at the fabric at closer look when it was pulled. She loved the look of it, it reminded her of the ice she skated on. The pearls like glimmers the ice gave in the sunlight it made her eyes simply grow to sparkle in silent delight.
" I see...and with this cloth can it be used for anything...or is it to be used much like the hijab and veils? " Giving a small hope she could use it to possibly make a cloak or bandanna from. Unaware of the small kindness Claire brought upon her.

"I look forward to it. Safe journey!"
| He was oblivious to the dynamics between the two, and really, it wasn't his concern. Sands was focused on those closest to his wares, and at present, that meant the diminutive mare in front of him. Levering the pipe with one hoof, Sands got it back in his mouth and gave it an appraising look. "They're meant to be worn either together or separately, as they share the same design. However, its use is at the discretion of the buyer. If a flattering hijab is not to your liking..." A rear leg kicked out gently to open one of his back cabinets, and with a bit of maneuvering, pulled out a nearly endless piece of the same cloth. It was rather like an extra long rectangle, and as he tossed it gently over the counter to land around her neck or thereabouts, its similarities to his own garb was immediately apparent. "Cloth is cloth, as with other tools of life, it can be molded--if you have the eye." He beamed, looking over her with a little nod of approval. Somehow his pipe was now lit (presumably after the cloth had gone airborne), but how this happened was a mystery.

It was good he was, it wasn't his buisness. Cherry would've thought grumpily at least she didn't want to impose anyone in her own problems. Instead focusing still on the spill of thread as she gently touched it to feel the material. It was soft, and cool to the touch as she looked up at him still big eyed as he explained ot her what it was for. The idea of a hijab was beautiful to her, she felt though it would get in the way of her skating durng the winter seasons. And afraid of course to ruin it with how much she ran about in the woods and ruins. A small frown coming to her face as she thought that she couldn't use it without ruining it. Looking on as he kicked his leg back to open one of his cabinets. Pulling out a what seemed like everflowing piece like the one she was holding. Her eyes instantly back to that wonder as he tossed it atop her.
Feeling it wrap around her neck as she blinked before looking down. It was warm and she couldn't help but fall in love with the cloth on her. Lifting a hoove to look at the shimmer before back to him. Just how was that pipe even lit? Trying to push that mystery outta her to nothing more than some odd voodoo before giving him a tiny nod. " I would...like to purchase this then if possible...can I make a scarf with this? It would be nice to wear..." Feeling a bit shy to the fact she would have to try and tailor this material...she wasn't even close to a good tailer. Mabye she could find one in town somewhere? She swore there was one in a shop down the street? Thinking a little as she still gazed at the fabric.

| The merchant seemed pleased, his smile going right to his gemtoned eyes. "It's made to wear, I assure you. The sand sea is no place for the tender of hoof, and likewise, their clothing must also stand up to the challenge."
| He apparently sat back in his stand, though it made little difference to his overall height. This at least let him pull the pipe out of his mouth, holding it in an easy and curious fashion with the crook of a foreleg, while the other hoof rested on the counter top.
"That's a lovely color on you, and sure to bring comfort on days where the sun beats down--that is what we use it for, after all--or where the cool night threatens a chill. This cloth should serve for whatever you wish to use it for. I only fashioned it as my mind saw fit. How it ends up, is up to you." He winked and stuck the pipe back in his mouth.
"For you, I'd say....twenty bits." Conveniently, he left off the amount her anonymous benefactor had covered. It had a price tag, true, but surely Cherry would only notice when she went to cut it off later.
"And for twenty-five, I shall let you have that, and another gift from the homeland." The now-free leg dug around under the counter, eventually pulling out a stoppered clay jar and setting it on the counter. It was pretty by itself, with painted designs on the side, but once it was uncapped, it had a sweet smell that cut through the smoke. "The sands are harsh on the hooves, and dry the skin. The mares of our herd swear by this balm, a nectar of life in the golden sea." It was wide and shallow, perfectly sized for the standard hoof. He pushed it toward her, holding out his own hoof to her. "May I?" he asked, nodding toward her own hoof.

She felt relived hearing that, Afraid of damaging the pretty cloth set aside for the most part as she still admired the cloth drapped on her. He didn't look to diffrent in height when he sat down he was still much taller than she was..though at her height everyone was. Giving a small nod towards his comment, " I am really fond of it...it would be especially nice during the winter seasons when I host my classes.." Leaning down to dig under the cloth and pull out a small cute coin purse with her cutiemark embroided on it. Digging into it expecting a much heftier price for the cloth as she almost dropped it at the price.
Only 20 bits? Giving him a curious look as to why he would sell a cloth like this at such a price. Trying to debate if it was fishy or just good luck. Waiting for the catch as she thought it did come with the addition of another gift for 5 bits more. Damn her curiousity as she looked confused as he dug behind the counter pulling out a clay jar to place it infront of her.
Just what was special about it? Besides its pretty apperance which at least was worth 5 bits to her alone. It would make a nice placer in her bedroom. Suprised by the new sweet scent that came out of it when it was opened, was it a candy jar instead? Though gave a "oooh" sound when he revealed it as balm. She wasn't to much for trinkets like that though being out in the winter cold often did dry her out. As he pushed the jar towards her before offering a off. Asking for her own as she paused a moment. Glancing down at her hoof before a tint of pink struck across her face as she held out a hoof carefully just to see how the balm would work. Setting the tiny hoof into his own whos was much bigger than hers.

| Sands didn't make anything out of the dainty hoof on his, merely guiding it to the jar and setting in inside the opening. He directed in such a way that she'd be rubbing it in a circular motion a few times, at which point he drew it back out. It was a bit think on her hoof in places, and would feel like an oily wax; the scent was stronger like this, sweet and honeylike, with an undercurrent of some oil.
"I apologize for the consistency, it is difficult to help in such a cool climate. In the homeland, the warmth of the land keeps it much softer." He was done with her hoof it looked like, though he wasn't done. "Try it on both, if you would. Rub gently, to warm it--" he demonstrated with his own hooves "--and cover the hooves. See, all the small grooves and imperfections will be gone away. Polished, like the pampered hoof of a newborn alicorn!" They probably would be very shiny, and with use the strong smell ebbed a bit. "A marvelous cure. Rub until it is soaked in, and with regular use, you will require less and less." He smiled, placing the large cork cap back on and setting it with her veil set hopefully.

She felt much better having nopony touch her again once he settled her hoof into the jar and out again after she had gotten some on her hoof. It was a odd feeling, waxy and still had a honeylike scent. Giving a small nod that it was alright as she curiously rubbed her hooves in a simple circular motion. Her eyes darting between his example and her own hooves as she rubbed it in. Covering her hooves as she noticed some of them were gone! A bit pleased with the outcome though unshowing of it as she moved her hoove a little to take a better look. It was very nice, and the scent alone made her pretty happy.
Though she still was a bit suprised it didn't cost that much. Giving a quick nod to the set and lifted her coin purse to hand him the small amount of bits. " Are you sure thats all it is...for such nice things...? " A bit troubled in her apperance in fear he was just trying to trick her or that she was simply using his kindness without thanking him.

| The merchant accepted the coins graciously, depositing them somewhere under the counter. Rather than immediately waving her off once he got his money--he wasn't that kind of merchant, after all!--he rested his forelegs on the counter in a casual manner, still smiling.
"Of course. I wouldn't very well change my mind halfway through, now. It's bad for business." His wider grin swiveled the pipe from one side of the mouth to the other, a thin line of smoke leaving a trail in the air. "Besides," he continued, wrapping the jar in newsprint for transport, "I may be a bit selfish on the matter, but it would be a confort to mee to see a taste of home on the street." The wrapped jar was set in a large bag, paper rather than the extravagant sewn bag he'd used for Claire's massive order.

It seemed Cherry was full of suprised looks today when the merchant didn't shoo her off. Though she wasn't very much one for conversation in the first place. Grabbing hold of the cloth to tuck it in her rucksack carefully. Shutting it tight with the strap while he wrapped the jar in newspaper and a bag. " I suppose it would...but ah thank you. " She didn't mind the paper bag in fact would much rather have that then something extravagant..she wasn't a flashy kind of pony unlike the taller counterpart she seemed to bump into often. Pulling the bag closer to her and moving to hold it in her mouth for a slight moment before lowering it to the ground carefully.
" I see, where..is home anyways, if you don't mind me asking? " Curious for once about someones location, it wasn't to often someone that seemed far far away came to visit such a small city. She'd at least like to know where he got these beautiful cloths from so she could make note again to see more. They looked like they'd make beautiful cloaks and scarves in the winter time mabye even a new hat!

| Sands busied himself with straightening the few display items littering the glass top, which hadn't moved the whole time. "Far to the ah, south-west, I believe," he replied, not hesitant so much as...shy? Something that might only be picked up on in retrospect, but yes, even if he was smooth and masterful when talking about his goods, talking about himself made the stallion self-conscious. "We call it the Sand Sea, but many others, a few I've seen, it's ah, something else. Sin Puloomun?" For the second time, he lapsed into quiet unreadable muttering, trying to get over his nerves enough to remember the odd name.

He must've been busy, as he was hesitant as he spoke. It couldn't have been shyness with the way he talked earlier. Taking it as a sign he just had to keep at his stall completely understanding with her own shop. " I see, Sin Puloomun...? " Trying to pronounce the word the best she could as she thought it over. Trying to remember where that possibly even was from the maps she saw, but her memory of intellectual things wasn't the best and she couldn't place it. " It sounds warm...do you travel around the world then? Or swim in the sand sea? " Wondering if she should still ask him yet still curious about where he came from, and about what exactly a sand sea was. Being sure nopony would knock over her new jar as a few stragglers came to check the shop out.
