The sun had sank behind the horizon and most of the market stall owners were packing up for the day. The sky was swirled with colors; pinks, purples, blues, oranges. It was lovely. A soft breeze had started up, blowing the cool ocean air across the city, ruffling the leaves and signs and banners that decorated the town. Now that the day was coming to a close, only a few straggling ponies still wandered among the closing stalls. One mare among them stopped to chat with a few of the local merchants, her auburn mane twisting in the soft breeze as she laughed heartily with some of the stall owners, most of which were regulars at her own cafe on the other side of town.
Saying goodbye to the few ponies she was chatting with, Pumpkin made her way down the plaza, admiring the way the fading light danced across the buidings and reflected off the windows. A small smile crossed her lips. The air was cool and the soft sounds of conversation drifted along the gentle breeze.

| The "Transforming Transportation", as it had been called, was showing signs of being closed for the day, though it was still partially unfolded. The striped awning was rolled back up and the glass top counter folded over, the wooden side now becoming the top. Shifting Sands was still sitting in the space between front and back on a few silk pillows and a blanket, his pipe nearby but at present traded for a carved wooden cup full of some cold beverage. The door on the side was locked shut, and away from curious eyes he was tallying his cash box on the floor of his cart. Telltale clinks sounded as he went about his work, but wouldn't be noticeable by passerby unless they happened to be right next to it. Every few coins was followed by a tally on the ledger, a piece of had charcoal fitted to a special strap on his forehoof for ease of use. He found himself stuck with the permanent smallest of grins, still reveling in his good fortune for the day.

As she strolled down the marketplace street Pumpkin noticed a peculiar stall with a striped awning that was already folded. Having lived in the town her whole life, Pumpkin was familiar with most if not all of the vendors who set up shop downtown, in fact she had grown up with a great number of them. However this particular shop was unknown to her, in fact it appeared to have originated from somewhere very foreign from this little city. From time to time, vendors stopped through on their way to or from one of the larger cities, and it was likely it was the same with this cart. Pumpkin would've liked to chat with the vendor, see if she could gleam any interesting news from the big wide world. Having never traveled farther than the neighboring cities, Pumpkin found tales of the wide world quite fascinating and she'd learned quite a lot from serving foreign ponies in her cafe. However, to her disappointment, the vendor didn't seem to be around. Pumpkin approach the cart curiously.

Tink. Tinktinktink. Tink.
| The sorting continued, and he was very near the bottom of the pile. It was a delicate process, or at least he tried to think of it that way. Really it was only ever 'delicate' if he tried stacking the coins, making a game of it--and even then, he usually knocked one or more towers over before he was even partway through counting things, which was hardly productive. Nope, just a little more and he could distract himself with actual leisure pursuits, like trading his cold juice for a coffee break or maybe piling up the cushions and reading his letters. But before any of that, he had to finish counting up the coins.
Tink tink.
| He was very close to finished when something made him pause. It wasn't any real notion that made him stop, as the noise of casually approaching hoofsteps became noticeable only awhile after he'd stopped. Mostly it was instinct. Warily, Shifting Sands drew a blanket over his work and stood up, quite easily visible now that he'd risen.
"Is there something I can help you with?" he asked before he'd really focused on who was out there. "Apologies, but I'm closed for the day. Any business will have to wait for morning light."
| Waiting for a reply, his violet eyes studied the visitor with a quick sweep. Soft orange coat, tri-colored mane, and the vague scent of...nutmeg maybe? She wasn't a customer he'd served before, and despite his words Sands' mind was already whirring and picking out potential items of interest. A verdant green drape perhaps, and copper bangles? Or perfume? Firmly he reigned in his shopkeeper instinct.

Pumpkin was curiously examining the stitchwork of the awning when a relatively tall stallion seemed to apparated from behind the counter. Startled, Pumpkin took a step backwards, eyes widening. Being the type of mare who was in the practice of concealing her emotions, being caught off guard made her self-conscious and she quickly reigned in her reaction, a slight blush rising onto her cheeks. "Oh-oh," she stuttered a bit, still somewhat embarrassed not only at her reaction but also at having been caught being nosy.
She cleared her throat and took a moment to compose herself, "I'm sorry, I hadn't seen you there," she smiled warmly, "I was just admiring your unique shop-cart." She examined the stallion, he didn't seem to be from anywhere she could place her hoof on but she inhaled a myriad of interesting scents; perfumes, spices perhaps.
