Sugar sighed. She was letting her emotions get the better of her. It happened a lot when she was tired, because she had trouble controlling them, and a harder time deciding what was logical. But she was starting to wake up, and she was trying to piece herself back together. It was annoying, but it was as it was. She sighed again.
"Look," She said as calmly as she could, sitting up straight, "Whilst I may not appreciate your... abilities, for what they are, I can no longer deny that you are an expert at what you do."
She swallowed her pride for a moment to continue.
"I am having difficulties with the Committee that handles the safety of new products. It's my theory that they wish for Equestria to remain as she is now, a wellspring of magic where, regardless of laws and equality, Unicorns are treated or seen as superior or noble, Pegasi are seen as necessary, and Earth ponies such as myself are seen as simply workhorses that put things in the ground. It's the way it has been for decades, and they don't want to add anything that looks like ponies like me can do things differently."
She was a little biased on that opinion to be honest, but as far as she was concerned (Honestly) it was the truth.
"I am running low on bits, and I really didn't have the time to come out here today if I wanted a chance to make more. I am waiting for the drill results, and I don't have high expectations. However, given the demand for better equipment, the Committee has to agree, or face the wrath of the Mining Industry."
At least, that was the logical course of action.
"That said, without a stipend each week to live off of that has enough bits to pay for materials as well, I am not looking well for monetary funding, and could face a lean time very soon. Which is why I'm trying to make a name for myself outside of Equestria now."
She took another breath, and the waitress returned with coffee, which Sugar grimaced at and pushed away. She hated coffee. Too bitter, too blech.
"My plan begins in Zebrica. And whilst you were almost correct in your earlier um... assumptions? I mean no offense, I have already been faced with this choice of yours, or I believe I have, and whilst I'm still considering the consequences of each path, I have not yet decided which way I want to go."
She didn't bring up the second choice she had to make. Judgement opened up new possibilities, if one took its path. Or, so Tarot said. The maker of these cards (Aptly named Tarot, as mentioned before) Had abilities much like Midnights, or legend say, but was much more powerful. Until yesterday, Sugar had dismissed them as a load of hogwash but, despite how she hated to admit it, it might actually be a viable field of magic. She also still believed Midnight did not know the face of the last card she drew.
"Had I the power, I would bring my plans to the Princesses themselves to approve, but I do not, nor have I a good reputation. So, I have logically concluded if I make a good name for myself elsewhere, I can collect funding from them instead of the Equestrian Triarchy (Or is it Diarchy? I still don't know the new Princess' stance in that) and still reside here as needs allow, though I may have to leave for Zebrica for a few days in order to present my purifier and convince them it is in their best interests to accept my humble donation."

Listening to Sugar say she appreciated her abilities and continue on about how she felt. The committee was sounding a bit biased on how things were done and making it sound unicorns were nobles? That was something..as Sugar went on after the coffee arrived Midnight looked to the side this pony was poor, living from day to day in hopes of getting some sort of recognition for her inventions
Zebrica was something if she went there and got the water purifier working for them that would get her something but, if it was a donation where would her bits be to help get food, parts and other things? Putting a bit of cream into the coffee and some sugar she sipped it "You say bring your ideas to the princesses themselves?" she thought a bit as well heard about going elsewhere she nodded. Sighing a bit she looked at Sugar "What if...I offered you one of two things? I dont know if you would know but, I come from the kingdom of Crimos. We have a good relation with Equestria and the person I work for is a high royal official." she began to lean in a bit
"What if I could send a letter to the princesses to get you an audience with them? Or because Arid has been pushing for more technology for our kingdom to help...what if I could get you an audience with him and the Queen of Crimos? No strings attached, no hidden agenda. Arid would probably snatch up the offer in a heartbeat."

"Crimos... Crimos... Where have I heard that name before?"
Sugar, despite her lack of social life, did keep an eye on Equestria's affairs, and she'd heard something about something...
"Hold up, isn't Crimos that place that's wracked by civil war?" She asked suspiciously, "I don't see how I can help there at this time. Ponies in a civil war don't care for mining equipment or water purifiers. They only want weapons, and I refuse to make those anym-"
She stopped there, and shook her head.
"I see no potential for profit in a place that's fighting itself."

"Oh...right." her ears lowered a bit reminded of the civil war now "You wouldn't make weapons I promise. Arid would want the drill for after the war. Mine for resources and of course gems. I am sure we could use the water purifier as well you are working on for after the war." she began to pick up the coffee with her hooves and sip it a bit "It's hard to know something is going on where you live...and unable to even send a letter to anyone there for fear of it being found before it gets there and you endanger yourself and anypony you happen to have befriended."
She set the coffee down before sighing a bit looking down at her coffee "To not know if ponies you love or know are still alive. I may be able to read my cards but, sometimes even I get scared to look."

Sugar was quiet for a moment, in order to let Midnight think about that for a moment or whatever ponies like her do, before speaking again.
"The blueprints for the drill stay with me," She began strongly, "I won't allow my Quantum Bore Tunnelling Drill (patent pending) to fall into the hooves of ponies who might use it as a weapon of war. Perhaps after your civil war has ended, I might consider proposing it, but not before. As for my purifier, it's not even finished yet, and I don't know if it will work at all. Mathematically it is sound, and theoretically it should work perfectly, but there's no absolutes until the prototype is complete. Which, by the way, is taking longer than it should because you have dragged me away from my work."
She went to take a drink, then smelled the bitter drink and grimaced again, pushing it away a bit more than last time. Normally she'd go for coffee in a heartbeat, but she'd already had three cups whilst she was working. Any more and she risked caffeine overdose, which generally meant she crashed. Hard.
Plus, it wasn't black.

"If you go with me to my kingdom I promise you nothing you build will be used for war. If you decide to go to the princesses I will write the letter today and send to them. I may not be Arid but, I am sure being his assistant and met both of them." she smiled a bit tilting her head some "I can get you in for you to give them your info."
She began to sip more of her coffee as she noticed that Sugar wasn't drinking her own "Anything you create is yours to do as you please. You needed food so for pulling you here I will give you any kind of help you need."

"I don't need your help!" Sugar insisted, "I can take care of myself, and I certainly don't need your help to see the Princesses. Even if you could, there'd be a five month (at least!) waiting period between making the appointment and meeting them."
The food arrived, two bowls of something that was steaming and smelling rather aromatic. Sugar didn't touch it yet, she was too busy pouting and trying to be thoroughly disinterested.

Hearing her say she didn't need her help she began to sip her coffee as the bowls were set down. Smelling them she looked at Sugar "Five months? Oh Sugar you haven't the slightest idea the strings I could pull to get you in tomorrow." Chuckling a bit she used her magic to get some napkins "Arid has gone to Canterlot for royal business and became good friends with them along with myself and Defiant."
She picked up some silverware and began to eat. Stopping only to say "A letter today you could be in whenever you wanted. As long as I went with you so they knew it was me who sent the letter."

Sugar didn't bother telling her that she'd already tried the princesses. Celestia, in fact. She'd tried to go to the day court to show Celestia her invention, to bypass the committee on her own, but Celestia had merely sighed, explained the committee was there for a good reason, and that she couldn't possibly agree to something like this without the committee overseeing the machine as well.
Sugar wasn't terribly impressed, and had decided to use Celestia's name in vain whenever she could, just to spite her.
"If you're so important to Crimos, then why are you here, when you should be there helping out?" She asked coolly, trying to bypass the subject using Midnight's position, "Seems counterproductive to me."

Hearing her asking her about being important to Crimos and not being there she began to lower her ears back. She just looked down as her hooves fidgeted a bit on "I..got told to go. I didn't want to go ok." she began to bite her lower lip a bit as her eyes darted around "It was to protect me that's why I got sent away."
She tried not to think about it "I had to...Arid ordered it. It was the first time he ordered me away like this." she began to pick up her coffee as she shook a bit the cup spilling a bit of coffee as she sipped it "I am Arid's assistant but, I do have my connections."

"A leader without assistant, trying to win a civil war," Sugar grumbled, finally beginning to eat, "Whatever. If I eat this, I can go home right?"
She looked back at Midnight, pausing once again before she even took her first mouthful. She wasn't impressed with being held this long away from her work. Even if she wasn't normally like this upon being taken away. This was important. This one really would make a difference to the world, or at least in Zebrica once she finished it.
It was going to work, and it was going to make things better for a lot of zebras.

"He..wanted to keep me safe ok." she began to look at Sugar as she seemed to still be angry with her. "Look I am an able fighter and all that. One day I caught a merc and took him on. He beat me pretty badly and when I say badly I had broken ribs and other things." she began to lean in a bit to Sugar
"He then..tried to take advantage of me. Arid and Defiant found us just before he did." she began to rub her arm a bit "He thought it would be best for me to leave till it was over after I healed up. In case somepony else tried to do the same." she began to look down a bit as she heard the question of eat then leave nodding her head a bit "Y..yes..if you want to. Can I come too though?"

Sugar might be logical and could be cold, but she wasn't heartless, and it was only like that when she was forced to do something like this. And as much as she wanted to say no, just to spite the poor mare, but she couldn't. She could see she'd hit a nerve that hurt, and obviously it hurt a lot. So instead, she sighed and nodded.
"Sure... just don't get in the way."

Looking up some at Sugar she had tears brimming in her eyes and smiled "I promise not to get in your way. Or you can toss a wrench at me." she moved her hooves up wiping her eyes a bit "Look at me getting all...emotional in public gotta perk up." she began to sip a bit of her coffee before looking at her food "Shall we eat then and head back?"

Sugar didn't answer verbally, but she did start to eat, which was an answer of it's own sort. The food was delicious, and after a while, Sugar did order another drink, just so she had something to drink as well.
