Oh, it devastated Spirit's parents alright. Enough for them to leave her on the doorstep to an orphanage when she could hardly even think for herself. And surprisingly, that wasn't a sore subject for the mare. It was in the past, and that basically meant she tried her best to not care for it. But, upon the subject of the Ley Lines, her eyes lit up.
"Well, could this place run itself for a few minutes? I could actually /show/ you, if you wanted."

Low swiveled his head this way and that. It was a weekday afternoon and very few ponies were in the bar. He was sure that they wouldn't burn the place down if he was gone for a few minutes. He walks out from behind the bar and says, "Sure, show me!"

"Fantastic!" Spirit cried, standing up, and finishing off the cider. She quickly grabbed her bag and began to lead Low outside of the bar, "We're probably going to want to do this outside, unless you don't mind charcoal marks on the floor."

"I wouldn't mind, but management would," Low says. He follows Spirit outside and stands off to the side, watching as she begins to work her magic.

With a grin, Spirit pulled a stick of charcoal from her bag, twirling it once before taking it to the ground. First, she drew a circle. Then, a square inside of it. It seemed simple until a multitude of actual glyphic pieces formed inside the rune. When she finished, she stepped back, "Now, I'm going to have to ask you to stand on this, and I'll work my magic."

Low simply looked at Spirit with a look incredulity in his eyes. He barely knew her and now she was asking him to stand on a mystic glyph that for all he knew would transport all the blood in his body to some blood god? Well, there were plenty of witnesses around, so that probably wouldn't have been the smartest thing to do. Tentatively, he steps forward and onto the glyph, watching and waiting for her next action and hoping that blood gods don't exist.

Unluckily for Low Key, there were indeed Blood Gods. And they were rather angry at Spirit. Blood of the innocent would probably appease them for a while. But, luckily for the bar keeper, Spirit wanted the Blood Gods angry at her. It was actually rather funny.
So, when Low Key stepped onto the rune, his blood was not brutally siphoned. Actually, nothing happened until Spirit closed her eyes. The arcane lines on the ground started glowing with a faint blue light. The world seemed to be filled with an ethereal light, as well, as if Low was looking through the world through a magickal filter. Everything seemed normal, save a small wavering in vision, and the fact that every living thing had a fain aura coming off of it. It was much more prominent on ponies, though. The obvious magick was coming from all. Earth, pegasus and unicorn alike!
All around him, as well, strands of magick thrummed alive, unknown by any of the ponies on the street, as they simply walked through them as if they weren't even there. From the surrounding Ley Lines, small rivulets and particles of of magick seemed to seep from them, travelling into the glyph upon the ground, activating it.
Everything was alive and brimming with the stuff. That was, until Spirit stepped into view. There was nothing coming from her body. She was a magickal dead zone. A basic void in the magickal gaze, "This is the world I tap into. beautiful, isn't it?"

Low couldn't believe his eyes! He looked around him, darting his head this way and that at everything he was witnessing. Ponies walking by gave him strange glances as he stared at the magic essence pouring off of them. Suddenly, he came face to face with a Ley Line that was right next to him. He slowly brought up a hoof and tried to see if he could touch it, but his hoof passed right through. When he looked over to Spirit, he notice her magical deadness and asked the obligatory question, "Why don't you have an aura?"

Spirit never got sick of the sight. She stepped onto the pattern with Low, smiling slightly. Just being able to see everything... thrumming with life. from the smallest of insect, to the largest of ponies. It was just... beautiful. Granted, she always had to make sure not to look at herself. It made her feel ugly. A void in this sea of beauteous colour.
"Well, I told you. When I said that I couldn't cast magic, it's because I was born without it. Not even the passive magic that allows pegasi to walk on clouds, or gives earth ponies the ability to be excellent craftsponies. In the magickal sense, I am completely dead."

Low could only stare at Spirit, "Born without magic? I couldn't imagine that sort of life." He gives her a sympathetic look and debates whether or not to give her any consolation. He eventually decides that she's a big girl and moves on to more important matters, "This is absolutely amazing! So how do you do it, siphon magic off of the Ley Lines and then cast it?"

"Well, siphoning means that it doesn't get returned," Spirit claimed, "So, I borrow the magick from the Ley Lines, and tether it to a rune. When activated, the runes and glyphs and whatnot do their magick. When that's all done, the magick is then re disbursed back into the world. After all, I'd never want to do anything that would harm the magickal flow," she said, smiling, pointedly ignoring the comment about being born without magick. While it didn't normally bother her, she was feeling particularly not well on it, today.

Low nodded in understanding, this was all so foreign to him and most of it was going way about his head. Still, he did his best to act like he understood half of what she said. He looked at her purse and said, "So that's what those cards are? They draw power from the Ley Lines. I never knew that before, thanks for sharing it with me. Anyway, I should probably get back inside, somepony may want a refill."

"Oh, of course, Mr. Key!" She claimed, smiling, "I'll actually be back in shortly, as well. I'm going to clean this up, first, though," she stated, gesturing to the sigil on the ground, as it dimmed in light, bringing the world back into it's normal look.

Low blinked as the auras and Ley Lines slowly dimmed into non-existence. He gave the world one more look, disappointment on his face as he turns around and walks back inside. Just as he thought, two ponies were less than patiently waiting for refills. He hurried back behind the counter, gave them their refills, ticked the tab, and started polishing his favorite glass.

Spirit made rather quick work of the circle, clearing it away in a matter of minutes, until there was no proof it ever existed, save the black marks on her hoof. And just as quickly, she made her way back inside, sitting and spinning upon her chair once more. She gripped her half filled mug of cider in her hoof, and began to drink it again. Because leaving a drink completely unattended was the best thing to do before putting it in your mouth.
