--- Even thou the sun had risen, it took some time before they both got up on their hooves to get ready for the day. Naira used the longest time considering she had to get fully ready with her outfit. They had, or mostly Niara, had decided they should go out and eat dinner outside in the nice weather. And what weren't a better place to do so then by the coast? Niara made the breakfast and had it in a bag, she was quite proud of it since she wasn't really used to make for two or rather food like they had here.
Arriving by the coast, a gentle breeze hit them and the sound of waves filled the air. Niara smiled widely and looked at Low. "Let's find a spot!" she said and started walking towards the sea, looking for a place with great view and a nice spot to sit. Niara had a nice feeling and she felt so happy right now, just being with Low made her feel good and happier then she normally would. Spotting a little tree with the view to the sea, she smiled and trotted over to it. She looked over her shoulder at Low. "I found a spot!"

Low was nearly giddy with excitement. For the first time in his life, he was actually on a date! To be honest, he never expected their relationship to move this fast. Had he had his way, there probably would have been a lot more sexual tension between them. Now that they had spent last night together, though, Low felt much more confident and comfortable around Niara. It was as if his mind was clearer and he was finally able to stop concentrating on her body.
The morning after was the best part, though. The two of them laying together, staring into each others' eyes, daring the other to get out of bed and make breakfast. Low ended up losing the dare, but Niara made breakfast anyway. He was a little indignant about that at first. He could have easily made her breakfast, what with the frozen waffles in the freezer, the cereal in the pantry, the milk in the fridge...he really needed to learn how to cook. Even while he was showering and getting dressed, the smells wafting out of the kitchen made his mouth water.
When Niara had told him that she was planning a picnic, he had wanted to wear his sport coat, dress shirt and tie. When she told him she wanted to go to the beach, he compromised by leaving the sport coat at home.
As they arrived on the coast and found a nice shade under a nearby tree, Low laid out a sheet and waited for Niara to take a seat before he reciprocated. As she set down the bag of food, Low's mouth began to water again. A warm smile on his face, he looks up at her and says, "I'm curious, what'd you cook for us? It smells delicious, whatever it is."

--- Niara sat down and smiled, seeing that Low was as hungry as a wolf for whatever was in this bag. She put a hoof on it and was about to open when she looked at him. "It's something special that I learned to make when I was living with my mum and dad, some of it is a bit spicy" she said and opened it, letting the smell get stronger and a small steam rise from it. The first thing she handed out was a two plates and napkins, then she got out the first meal. A small box which contained small waffle looking foods which where a stronger color of yellow with strawberries on the side. "Curry and sugar cakes with strawberries" she said and put some on each plate for both of them. She remembered learning to make these and the technique she learned that she practiced for days to get right. This was her mothers favorite breakfast food, and the best drink to have with it was some flower tea from her stand. There was more in the bag, but she wanted to make it a three meal-ish thing and to see his reactions. She hadn't been cooking for others in years and hoped it hadn't gone rusty. "What do you think?"

Low decided to get back to her after he had tried the cakes. As he was able to isolate the smell, he smelled a hint of sugar as well as what seemed to be peppers, cinnamon, and other spices he couldn't place. He enveloped it in an aura of his magic and was about to lift it to his face when he remembered etiquette. His mother, having worked as a waitress, had substantial knowledge of dining etiquette and had informed him numerous times, If you're out on a date and she isn't a unicorn like yourself, keep you magic to a minimum. Some pegasi and earthers will think you're trying to demonstrate your superiority over them. As such, he gently set the cake back down on the plate and tentatively reached out with a hoof. It took him a few seconds to get a good grip on it as he lifted it up, making sure to keep his mouth over the plate.
As he took a bite, the exotic taste exploded in his mouth. The texture was just like that of any other kind of cake, only the sugar and cinnamon was perfectly complemented by the spicy taste of what Low guessed to be the curry powder. He wanted to meet the genius who originally came up with the idea to make a cake with this spice; he was in absolute awe of just how perfect the sweet and spicy mixed together to give his taste buds an absolutely unique sensation. He finished the one cake with some strawberries before he finally looked up at her, his eyes sparkling, "These are amazing! I never would have thought something like a curry cake could work, but I learn something new every day!" He then proceeded to finish up the rest of the cakes and strawberries, wondering what culinary masterpiece the second course would bring.

--- Niaras face light up in joy from the response, he had done it perfectly to his taste. She enjoyed it much herself, feeling that she had done a good job on the measurements. She didn't use spoons or measurement cups, just working with the taste and feeling what would fit best. The art of cooking isn't written in any book, there will be no tutorial on how to learn it. You have to think it, feel it, experience it and taste it. She could hear the words being said by her mother several times when Niara was younger and grew inpatient, gave up or something went wrong. "I'm very glad you liked them" she said and giggled, turning over to the bag again. She got out two tall glasses for each and then a straw. She cut a lime in half and squeezed the juice from each part in each glass and got out a bottle. She then started pouring inn something a bit thick in a red color until it was empty but the glasses where only half full. She then got out another bottle and poured out the same kind of liquid in a white color. She put the bottles back and decorated the glasses with cinnamon and a slice of a lime. Looking over at them with a smile, she was happy with how it had turned out. Her eyes moved to Low as she was about to explain. "This is a smoothie with raspberry and strawberry in the bottom and coconut sombre at the top, I came up with the combination myself and I used to make it in small cups and give it out to ponies on the streets on very hot days" she said. She waited for Low to taste it before she tasted it herself, she had always done that when she was the cook and didn't want to miss the reaction moment.

As Low watched Niara mix the drink, he couldn't help but draw parallels between this and his bartending job. Unlike her, however, he was used to mixing alcoholic drinks. What she was mixing right now looked like a smoothie, something he had never made nor tried before. That last part brought up a good question: Why hadn't he ever had a smoothie before? It was really hard to place, but he guessed he just preferred milkshakes.
As Niara explained the composition, Low's ears perked up. After the curry cakes, though, he should be expecting these sorts of surprise mixtures. As she placed his share in front of him, he picked it up and took a deep sip. As the coconut sorbet reached his taste buds first, he mmm'ed. While coconut wasn't his favorite flavor, it was still in the top 10. Those ponies that hate it claim that it's too bland, but Low saw it as bland in the way that rice is bland; you could mix the two with anything and at least one ingredient would be complemented. In this case, as the fruit blend finally arrived, the two layers mixed in his mouth to form an incredibly tasty combination. If he didn't know any better, he'd swear this mare was spoiling him. If he didn't draw the line somewhere, he'd start getting a pudge in no time.
He stowed that thought away as he smiled back at Niara, "You're just full of surprises aren't you? I love it! I should probably wait until the final course, but I just have to ask right now: Where did you discover your gift for creating the perfect spice blends?"

--- Niara took a sip after Low had taken his first, she smiled at his reaction and enjoyed the smoothie. It was one of her favorite drinks, and right now it felt wonderful with the cold drink running down her through and almost calming it after the curry taste. She had never met a pony who didn't like smoothies, only some that had never tasted it or alike. Her ears and eyes perked towards Low at his question, she giggled and smiled as she put the glass down. She had to think for something to say without sounding arrogant, she was born in a family who liked cooking after all so. "I guess it's just my curiosity that leads to successful experiments" she said with a laugh and returned to her drink. As she said, it was mostly curiosity on how spices would taste together and if she could do something that hadn't been done yet. As they both finished, she put them away and got out just one plate and a napkin. She then stopped herself for getting out the last meal and looked at Low with a slight smile. "The last thing I have is for you. My fathers favorite food over everything in the world that I used to make for him on his birthday, when he was sick or when he was feeling down. 12 years ago, he passed away unexpectedly and each year at this day, I make this meal for either myself or someone I care about" she said, her eyes getting a bit glossy as she talked and tried to keep her tears inn. She had been crying for several years at the same day but she had learned to control it more now. Turning to the bag, she got out something that looked like a small pie with a cherry on top. It was beige-ish brown and had some sugar on it. "This is a Chi Chi Cherry pie" she said with a warm smile and put it on his plate. "It's added Chi Chi Powder, which is a cherry powder, to the dough and has peanuts in it" she explained and looked at him. It had been a while since she made it for someone else, now she was hoping it wasn't too sweet like the last time she made it.

Low's smile faded as Niara discussed her dad, "I'm sorry for your loss." He absolutely hated that phrase with a passion. To him, it was just a euphemism for I never knew him, so I don't care. Regrettably, his opinions on the matter weren't quite different from that, but he had to say something. The subject obviously contained a lot pain for her, and this was unfortunately the best he could give her.
Despite his best efforts not to, he couldn't help but think of what would happen if she did end up crying. He'd never had a mare cry on his shoulder, and the thought of somepony putting that much trust in him made him feel like he was worth something. He immediately banished the thought as he presented the facts of the matter: Niara already had a lot of trust in him; this in turn implied that he was worth something; also, he never wanted to see her cry if he could help it. The fact that he had taken any sort of solace in her pain disgusted him to no end.
As Niara introduced the Chi Chi Cherry pie, Low couldn't help but groan internally. He wasn't about to air his discomfort openly, but either she was trying very hard to impress him or she had a sweet tooth that rivaled everypony he knew, himself included. If it was the former, then it was certainly laudable. He'd have to tell her sometime that he preferred to eat in moderation, but it felt good to have somepony working hard to woo him.
That last thought almost made him feel guilty in that he hadn't contributed anything. Then again, he did come to breakfast well-dressed, but he felt incomplete without the sport coat. This whole line of thought on wooing almost made him wonder if he truly did regret last night. He barely had to work at all to get her attention, and it almost made him feel a bit empty. It was like he wanted to backtrack, to pretend that they weren't head over heels for one another and that he still had to work to woo her. All of this brought him back to the present, with Niara having baked a very sweet (if unbalanced) breakfast and Low simply sitting there eating it. The least he could do was make himself look attractive, but he honestly had little to no clue how to do that. He took a shower, making sure to practically bathe in soap and shampoo, brushed and combed his hair, brushed his teeth until his gums were sore and then applied a liberal amount of deodorant before putting on a dress shirt and tie. All of this was a good start, but what would truly grab her attention? A hat, maybe? Lots of sexy stallions wear trilbies, maybe if he-No. Taking a good solid look in her eyes, Low could see that Niara was enjoying this moment as much as he was, so why should he feel any guilt?
Clearing his thoughts, he refocused back on the cherry pie. Offering a somewhat-fake smile, he says, "I am most definitely interested in that, but do we have something to cut it with?"

--- Niara didn't react as first as she looked at Low. He looked so nice today and she remember hearing him from the bathroom washing and scrubbing like crazy, the smell of deodorant filling the air as he came back out. He looked nice in his suit that he had chosen, but the coast weren't the best place to wear such nice clothing. "Yes, of course" she said and got a small knife from the bag and handed it to him. She got her own saddlebag and took a short moment when Low didn't look at her and grabbed her mirror. It was a small, white mirror with red roses on she bought when she turned 16 and it was very handy for her. Moving it around, she checked if any of her earrings or her shawls looked messy and fixed on some of them. She used more time then she should, Low and most likely seen her trying to fresh up already but she wanted to look the part. As she put it back, she got out some leftover berries and ate them herself. "If you find it weird or it looks like I'm feeding you up, I have to apologize. As a saddle arabian, most mares live for impressing their loved ones and by the phrase that "a way to a stallions heart is through his stomach".. I don't really believe that, but making food to someone else is for my family either a sign of respect, admiration.. or love" she explained to him, she hadn't seen any signs of discomfort from him but she never knew what they might think. Her cheeks grew red a bit and she bit her lip not to smile too big as she looked at Low, she wanted to just get up and sit down beside him but she didn't want to interrupt his eating.

Low took the knife in his hoof and cut a moderately-sized slice. Carefully placing it on his plate, he took up a fork and scooped up a piece. As he bit into it, it was definitely very sweet. He understood now why some stallions referred to their special someponies as "My Cherry Pie". Cherry wasn't usually his favorite flavor, but he could make exceptions, especially when said chef had put so much work into it all for him.
That last part still gave him butterflies every time he thought about it. This meal was made with love and the express purpose of impressing him. Ironically, Low was feeling so much guilt right now, as if he felt that he didn't deserve it. How did he manage to get so lucky being found by a strong, talented, sophisticated mare like Niara? Covertly, he gritted his teeth in frustration; why was he still feeling guilt over this? It was as if he thought that he had lied to her like he had lied to Saline, but if that were the case then why did he agree to stay with her for more than one night? In fact, with Saline, it was Low whom had initiated; last night was the other way around. Mentally chastising himself, he vowed that he would find some way to stop trying to find something to be guilty about. Both Niara and Low were in this relationship because they both wanted to be there, not because one was playing the other.
He was suddenly dragged out of his thoughts as Niara began to speak. He was about to laugh off her apology when she said the last part. He still hadn't gotten used to using the four-letter l-word in this context. Never in his life could Low say with absolute certainty that he had been in love. Most of the time, it was either just a crush or a confused physical attraction, but this was the first time that he had ever had a true and deep emotional connection with somepony. All at the same time, the connotation gave him butterflies and scared him. He was about to launch into another episode of deep thought when he forcibly cleared his thoughts. His fears could take a rest, there was something he had to say.
Blushing hotly, he gave Niara a warm smile and looked her in the eye, "I...love you too, Niara. You really shouldn't feel any guilt over any of this. Sure, my pancreas may throw a fit over the amount of sugar I've just consumed, but I'm not going to get diabetes over a single meal." He extends a hoof and places it over her own, "You worked really hard on this, and I can taste it in every sip and bite. If anything, I'm maybe a little bit jealous. A stallion like me could get used to all this spoiling." His warm smile becomes a teasing smirk as he adds, "Perhaps I'll have to try and out-do you sometime, huh?"

--- His words made her warm inside and she felt like she wanted to burst, just the look in his eyes was enough to tell what he felt for her. And so did her own expression filled with joy and love towards him. It had been a while since last time she felt this way, but this was so much more different. Maybe because she was a bit older or because he was so different, she just knew that it was meant to last. Seeing as he smirked, it got over to her and her expression changed as well as his. "Out-do me, you say? I think I'll be looking forward to that" she said with a chuckle and sighed. Niara cleaned up the plates and the stuff, putting the bag aside to get more space as she moved over to his side. She kissed him on the cheek and rested her head on his shoulder, slowly closing her eyes and feeling like she was safe. A feeling came over her that made her think that nothing could hurt her now. "Promise me one thing, please... never let me go" she said in almost a whisper and cuddled up to him with closed eyes and holding onto his hoof, feeling safe and sound.

Low reached his other hoof around the back of Niara's neck, holding her while also playing with her mane. Moving his muzzle next to her ear, he breathes, "I promise." He tenderly kisses her on the neck before laying his own head down and closes his eyes.
A few seconds later his eyes shoot open and a look of worry is on his face, though Niara most likely would not have noticed it. Aside from generosity, the other quality that he held in highest regard was honesty. This in mind, he couldn't help but wonder just how long they'd last. Was Niara truly the one? Low wanted nothing else but for that to be true, but what if it wasn't? At the same time, though, what exactly was he supposed to say? "No promises"? Oh yeah, that would have gone over real well. So what should he do?
His answer, as usual, came from his conscience; so what if the two of them didn't work out? He thought back to last night, how the two of them had gone on until the early morning, stopping for a break every few minutes before going right back to it. Were either of them thinking about what they would do in the morning? Of course not, they were too busy enjoying each other. Was it really worth spending all of your time thinking about tomorrow when there was so much to enjoy today? Tomorrow could wait, right now Low was sharing a late-morning nap with a beautiful, intelligent mare who was proud to say that she was his. Right now, that was all that mattered.
The worry dissolved off of Low's face and a grin slowly crept up as he closed his eyes, basking in the warmth of Celestia's sun and the pony whom he loved. The night couldn't come soon enough.
(( I think this is a good place to end it unless you had more in mind? ))
