Spirit nodded. Hopefully the abridged version wouldn't turn into the full, again. That was a habit of hers. She just didn't know when to shut up sometimes. Regardless, she rolled over onto her back and began speaking.
"I actually got this rather recently. A few months back, to be honest. I had heard of a set of legendary jewels that coincided with moon phases. They were only accessible via portal on the correct night."
"Honestly, I thought them legends until I found a portal. The waxing crescent, if memory serves. And, big surprise, I jumped in."
"Next thing I knew, I was in a jungle. In front of me was a pyramid, with steps leading up to the top of it. Sitting astride an altar was a good sized crystal ball. It was pure black, save for a sliver of silver encasing one side of it, in the exact shape of the moon that night."
"I grabbed it. Big mistake. The ground opened up underneath me and I fell downwards into the darkness. I think I blacked out for a while, because I no longer had the crystal. when I came to, I was in a damp corridor. It felt like a greenhouse in there, and it looked like one, too. Vines and plants riddled the walls, it was humid, and the only light source down there was a trail of bioluminescent mushrooms."
"With no way back up, I followed it. The corridor hardly strayed, and when it did, it was only for a complete u-turn. I assume that kept me under the temple as it slowly lead me further and further down underneath the soil."
"I don't know how long it took me to reach the first atrium, but it felt like an eternity. The ceiling was vaulted high enough that the mushrooms' light didn't reach it. But, I did hear a noise. The shifting of plants. Vines... moving... as if they had a life of their own."
"From the roof, bones began to rain down, somehow never breaking as they hit the soft soil under my hooves. Along the rib cage that hit the ground, there was a massive pink flower, overtaking the entirety of the cavity."
"From the flower, more strands of ivy emerged, wrapping around bones and... piecing them together like a hellish jigsaw. Next thing I knew, standing before me was the remains of a giant, skeletal cat. Teeth easily the size of my foreleg jutted from it's face."
"And no matter how many times I knocked it down, it stood back up. No matter how many times I broke a bone in half, it would just piece it back together, holding it together with the vines, as if it were living duct tape. The thing didn't stop coming at me until I actually found a way to destroy that flower in its gut."
"By that point, I realized that no matter what these jewels could get me, they weren't worth my life. But, I knew I couldn't turn back. There wasn't a way up. So, with a knot in my stomach, I pushed onwards and downwards."
"It seemed every step I took, it just got hotter and hotter. I felt like I was drowning in my own sweat. My mane hung limp in front of my face, making it difficult to see. The whole nine yards."
""There were a few other large rooms as I continued downwards, though these ones had nothing in them. I think the fifth or sixth one was where things got fun."
"A single demon. A plant-creature. Looked like a pony with a vine-mane connected to another massive pink flower on the wall. It was sitting on the ground, holding the gem in it's hooves. It only said one thing to me. And I don't think I'll ever forget the unliving voice it spoke with."
"'thank you for releasing me,' it said."
"And just like that, it was literally gone. Disappeared from sight. I didn't notice the vines creeping along the floor until it was too late."
"Next thing I knew, I was wrapped up. For the second time in one day, I blacked out. I awoke above ground, with a vine wrapped around my leg."
"But, that wasn't all. Voices. I heard a voice and felt a power in my mind. Trying to take control. Thankfully, I never let it. I did have the orb, though. Still have it back at my camp, actually."
"The scars came about a week later, though. I went through a week of constant struggles against a demon trying to take over my body. Thankfully, the clergy knew how to handle possessions and demons."
"It hurt like hell. They literally had to burn the monster out of my body with 'holy light' or something. I don't really know the entire thing. All I know is that the vine and voice were gone, even if I was branded with this scar forever, now."
